6 Vit Encore

Jacques Vide (1404-1433)

Vit encore ce faux Dangier,
Qui tant nous a fait d’escombier?
Madame, ne morra il ja?
Il deust estre mort de piecha,
Car je n’en fais fors qu’en parler.

Pour le mal que j’ay alegier
Je vous supplie et requier,
Rescripsies moy comment il va.
Vit encore…

Jalousie qu’il l’a tant chier
Li devroit sa vie abregier
En che qu’onques ne vous ama.
Par dieu s’il n’est mors, il morra,
Que ly lous le puissent mengier!
Vit encore…

Is he living still, this false Danger,
Who so much discomfits us?
Madame, will he never die?
He should have been dead long since,
Because I am stronger in speech than in deed.

For the ills that I have assuaged
I beg and request of you
Write and tell me how he is!
Is he living still…

Jealousy, who he frustrated so,
Should shorten his life,
For he never loved you.
By God, if he is not dead, he will die -
Let the wolves devour him!
Is he living still…
